Airport – located just a few hundred yards away from the Geneva Palexpo Conference Centre, Geneva International Airport (www.gva.ch) services a network of a hundred or so destinations spread right across the globe.   It is only 5km (3 miles) from the city centre which is easily accessible via taxi or public transport/road networks.  For further information please refer to the airport website www.gva.ch

Banks and exchange
Official opening hours of banks in Geneva are generally from 0830-1630, Monday to Friday, sometimes with a break for lunch.  Some city and tourist resort banks also open on Saturday, often 0900–1600.

Credit Cards - Most hotels, restaurants and shops in Geneva accept major credit cards.

Currency – Swiss franc (CHF).   Average rate: 1 Euro = CHF 1.50.  The exchange rate for the Euro and the Swiss Franc is not officially fixed and is subject to daily market fluctuations. Conversion rate is available at exchange offices, banks and in newspapers.

Exhibition - The Exhibition is open to pharmaceutical companies, manufacturers of medical and surgical equipment, software equipment and scientific publishers. The Exhibition will take place in Hall 1 of the Geneva Palexpo and will be open as follows:

Letters of Invitation - Letters of invitation required to meet the administrative and legal regulations of some countries are available to participants on-line by clicking here, or alternatively upon written request to the Executive Secretariat. Please write your name and address clearly, in order to ensure an efficient reply. Such letters should not, however, be construed as a financial commitment on the part of the Organisers.

Lunch and Refreshments - Coffee and tea will be available in the exhibition area during official programme breaks and will be included in the registration fee.  Lunch is not included in the registration fee.  However, there will be catering points in the exhibition area where delegates may purchase food and drinks.

Opening Hours - The Annual Techno-College of EACTS will be held from 08:00-18:00 on Saturday 11 September.  Postgraduate Courses will be held all day on Sunday 12 September from 08:30 to 16:30.  The main scientific programme will commence at 08:30 on Monday 13 September and end at 13:00 on Wednesday 15 September.  Breakfast Sessions will be held on Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 September from 07:30-08:30.

Registration and information desks will be open on the Ground Floor of the Palexpo Conference Center at the following times:

To avoid unnecessary delay, you are strongly recommended to register and collect Meeting documentation on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 September if possible.  Delegates who register and receive their badges by mail prior to the event should report to the Fast Track area where they will be issued with their lanyard and meeting documentation.

Passports and Visas - Check passport and visa requirements in due time before you leave. For information on visa requirements, please contact your nearest Swiss Embassy.

Travellers requiring a visa to enter Switzerland should ensure that it entitles them to re-enter after having visited neighbouring countries.  A valid passport is essential for excursions into France and Italy and, for certain nationals, visas must be obtained beforehand.

Scientific Programme - The 24th EACTS Annual Meeting will concentrate on scientific exchanges in Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery and will be presented in oral and video sessions, in addition to 'hands-on' demonstrations of heart specimens.

Shopping hours - Shops are generally open from 0900-2000 Monday to Friday with Saturday hours being limited to 0800-1600.  Very few shops are open on Sundays and some will stay closed on Monday, while others may open a bit later on Monday morning.

Taxis - Taxis in Geneva can be ordered by phone, hailed in the street or found at about 60 authorised taxi ranks in town, airport and main station.
Fares between airport and city range from about CHF 30 to CHF 35 (€19-22) and depending on traffic conditions, time of day and number of passengers.  Presently, the fare within Geneva, including airport, is the amount shown on the taximeter.  The driver will request a small extra charge for luggage. Tip and VAT are included.  Basic charge: CHF 6.30 (€4) + kilometre CHF 3.20 (€2).
